Time to HOP with Unity

Hello everyone!  It's time for an inspirational HOP with the first set of March releases from Unity.  I think there is something for everyone with this release. Just in time for spring there are bunnies, owls, flowers...OMGoodness, so much cuteness!  I've made a few cards to share with you, so settle in and have a look.

Here's the brand new March sentiment kit (I own every single monthly sentiment kit!) from Lisa Arana...Bunny Keep You Forever.

And speaking of bunnies...this adorable kit from Angie Blom - Let's Be Happy.

Here's the Rebuild Your Life kit from Angie Blom and Lisa Arana.  Isn't this flower gorgeous?

Last, but certainly not least the Owl Graduate kit from Lisa Arana.  I think many of you in the Unity Show & Tell Facebook Group have been asking for this one!  I couldn't help myself the little glasses embellishment (you know those embellishments you are hoarding in a drawer somewhere that you've had forever???).  These are from Hobby Lobby.

As usual when we HOP, we encourage you to leave us some love.  Not only are we inspired by your thoughtful comments, you could be one of two big Unity prize package winners.  Just leave a comment on each design team member's blog and also on the Unity blog.  It's so easy...just follow the pretty faces at the end of this post.

So in addition to these fabulous new releases, send $40 and get a free grab bag; spend $75 and you get the grab bag, a free adorable kit, AND free shipping in the US.

Unity HOP February 2, 2017

Good evening Unity friends.  We delayed our monthly HOP a week just so we could promote all of the lovely new Angie Girls and Phyllis Harris stamps releasing this week.  I promise you won't be disappointed if you check out each blog in the HOP.  The inspiration is incredible!

I haven't had a lot of free time lately so I only have one card for you.  So many of the members of the Unity Show & Tell Facebook Group have been using colored pencils on kraft cardstock and the effects are always stunning.  I decided to give it try myself, and this is what I came up with.

Isn't this image just the sweetest???

To see all of this week's new releases just visit the Unity February release web page.

As with all of the Unity HOPS, we are giving away an awesome prize package to two of you who comment on each hopper's blog post and on the Unity blog post.  We love trying to give you some inspiration and love it when you take the time to give us some encouragement.

Say Goodbye to 2016

WOW!  Another year gone.  Trust me...when they say "the older you get, the faster it goes"...it's ALL true!

I have a few cards to share with you today.  The first one is from the lovely December sentiment kit.  I always try to have a stash of sympathy cards on-hand (and unfortunately, I've sent way too many this year). It's so easy to color this floral image (HINT - the shading is already part of the stamp!).  Then I die-cut it into an oval and adhered that over another inlaid die-cut image.

Here's another with the December sentiment kit - paired with the December KOTM.  The open heart from the KOTM has a big space that's perfect for adding a sentiment.

Now, what is a month at Unity without some new Angie-Girls???  It just doesn't happen!  Here's my favorite from this month - Brystl Girl.  She's colored with distress markers.

Finally, I have one more for you.  It's my wish for everyone (using the November KOTM) to have a fabulous 2017.  Remember that even when you feel like you have no control over what's going on in your life, you still have the ability to manage your life and make it the best it can possibly be.

I've shown a couple of cards that use the KOTM.  If you haven't seen (in the Facebook Unity Show & Tell Group), the KOTM and SMAK subscriptions are going up substantially in January.  These kits have been offered at Unity for almost 10 years and the price has remain unchanged, like forever!  If you're on the fence about joining I urge you to think about doing it now.  Anyone who signs up for the December kit will be grandfathered in for the current price of $26 + shipping (only $5 in the USA).

As with all of the Unity HOPS, we are giving away an awesome prize package to two of you who comment on each hopper's blog post and on the Unity blog post.  We love trying to give you some inspiration and love it when you take the time to give us some encouragement.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Brown Thursday HOP

I'm so excited for this HOP!  It's that "ALL OUT" time of year for Unity. TONS of new releases and a discount on almost every stamp in the store - just for YOU.  The big benefit is that it's happening right now - well before any of this Black Friday nonsense so you have plenty of time to check out all of the new stuff and move all that wish list stuff right into your cart!  Let's go!

I wish I'd had time to play with all of the new releases, but there are so many I only did a few.  This post is still full of photos and some friendly tips.

I'm a HUGE Phyllis Harris fan and this release is stunning.  This Magical as Snow kit is destined to become one of my favorites. It's colored with distress markers and the the edges are inked with more distress ink.  I rotated the circle frame snowflake die just so it appeared that one of the snowflakes was sitting in her hand.

Let's move on to a beautiful sentiment kit (Full of Merry) just in time for Christmas card and tag making.  This card is so easy to make! Take a rectangle of card stock smaller than your card front.  Die cut an ornament shape from the center (think of the other seasonal possibilities!).  Stamp your sentiment on some cardstock, add some simple coloring, and mount behind your frame with foam tape.  Adhere the whole thing to your card and add some sequins and a twine bow.

The new I Tolerate You kit from Lisa Arana is just the sweetest image.  Again, I used my go-to coloring tools - distress makers.  The bear is colored completely while for the bunny, I simply used a light color and went right inside the image line then took a wet paint brush over that to blend it out a bit.  This gives some depth to a white image :) I love the little strip of "sweater paper" I found at HL and then some die cut snowflakes to finish it off.

Now it's Joy to Go from Angie Blom.  She might be famous for her girls, but her talent extends to so many other images (psst!, like this one). It's easy to color a detailed image with distress markers (or any water-based marker).  For instance on the pine branches, lay done a fine line with your marker on the main stem and then use a paint brush or water brush to pull the color out to the ends of the needles.  It creates such a pretty watercolor effect.  As with all of my cards, I want the image to be the focal point.  I only added a piece of a doily and a little enameled heart dot for embellishments.

I saved my favorite for last.  Anyone that knows me knows that I love dogs.  OK, so Labradors are my absolute favorite, but I do love all dogs.  This little fellow from the Lucky Dog kit is just the cutest thing.  The coloring is so simple.  I kind of squiggled (my word-of-the-day) some distress marker close to the black parts of the image and then took a very wet pint brush and laid it on top of the color to let it flow a bit.  The result is a tri-color dog!  The sentiment is masked to break it into 2 parts (or if you prefer and I do! - just cut into 2 parts - no stamp harmed in doing this).  You can still stamp the parts into a straight line, or do what I did to get them to fit into the little tag die.  One sad note here...the paper I used is part a very old DCWV Pet Mat Stack.  To the best of my knowledge it is no longer available.  I guess this is why I have so much paper that I can't let go of!

So here's the big SCOOP you've all been waiting for.

And don't forget what happens every single HOP...there are prizes to be had just for leaving each design team member a little bit of love.

So follow all of the pretty faces you see below (and the Unity blog too!).  Remember our HOP motto
HOP, then SHOP!
